People preferably store their belonging in certain recognizable, safe places. Flats, lockers, backpacks are storage entities designed in order to contain and protect personal possessions. Thus, they automatically give the message of containing personal possession, even if there are none inside. In an urban environment, the most common measures to protect one's belongings are lockers, luggage depots, locks or insurance policies.
When working on the Project "The Secret Privatisation of Public Space", we changed this notion to the opposite: instead of hiding things and guarding them obviously from everyone, we placed personal belongings so publicly that they were not noticed. We are absolutely sure of the fact that things, which are placed right under your nose, are generally the most overlooked.
The work on the project "The Secret Privatisation of Public Space" is to be understood as work in progress. New hiding places are constantly being created and secret public rooms generated some of them highly customized. If you are looking for your own customized secret public hiding space in your city, just talk to llot llov.
In cooperation with Katha Gramke, Nico Graßmann and Martin Hofmann, a film was generated from this idea, illustrating the "Secret Privatisation of public" space in an entertaining way.
